Brighton & Hove round table

15th March 2010 – a round table in Brighton brought together invitees from local business, government and community organisations to discuss innovation, sustainability and development in Brighton & Hove and beyond.

Topics

Participants discussed how Brighton and Hove can play a part in global sustainability, focusing on the following areas:
1. Waste as a resource for energy and other uses
2. Transport, including electric vehicles, sustainable biofuels and public transport policies
3. Innovation in agriculture, including urban and urban fringe growing, supply-chain innovation and managing food waste.

14.00-16.45 Manifesto Roundtable, hosted by the STEPS Centre in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council
14.00-14.45 Introduction
Introduction to the Manifesto project and outline of the day.

14.45-16.15 Break-out groups
Separate discussions amongst break-out groups to outline shared visions for innovation, sustainability and development from a Brighton and Hove perspective.

16.15-16.45 Plenary discussion
Participants will feed back and briefly discuss the outputs of their sessions.

16.45-17.30 Tea/Coffee break

17.30-19.30 Public debate (hosted by the STEPS Centre)
Representatives from local political parties were asked to respond to the questions emerging from the afternoon’s discussions. Local people were invited to debate issues of innovation, sustainability and development in the city and worldwide.
