This research report is intended to inform and encourage debate on the management of resources in the peri-urban fringe. In particular it demonstrates how the dominant, mainstream, strategies for water supply and management are failing in terms of social justice and environmental integrity, and the particular opportunities and challenges associated with the peri-urban situation. It then explores a range of alternative perspectives on priorities for peri-urban water management,
and opportunities for opening up more socially just decision making processes in this regard.
