The Sustainable Development Goals: What are they and will they make a difference?

4th August 2018

STEPS Co-director Ian Scoones will be delivering a talk in ‘The Lyceum’ tent at Wilderness festival on Sat Aug 4 (hosted by the School of Global Studies at the University of Sussex)

At the end of 2015, the world signed up to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These were to be universal, covering all of humanity. No-one was to be ‘left behind’. Following on from the UN High-Level Political Forum on the SDGs in mid-July, this talk will ask what are these goals, and what potential for change do they offer? Do the global goals offer an opportunity to focus on the political transformations required to achieve sustainable development, both north and south?
