Communities, technologies and democratic innovation

12th November 2020 @ 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm

Fusebox director Phil Jones interviewed Prof Andy Stirling and Prof Adrian Smith in a roundtable discussion. They talked about the importance and challenges around democratising innovation, and how people around the world are already practicing new forms of innovation and demanding better from existing innovation institutions.

They explored why technology and the kinds of digital futures explored at Fusebox and elsewhere, are deeply social matters, and how the politics of such innovation demands democratic approaches in technology. Andy and Adrian drew on their ESRC social science research and particularly the work done in the STEPS Centre.
