Community-led Total Sanitation (CLTS): Challenges of Nation-wide Scaling up and Sustainability

Since its innovation in Bangladesh in 2000, Community-led Total Sanitation (CLTS) has spread to more than 65 countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America where more than 400 million people are now living in open defecation free (ODF) environments.

Dr Kamal Kar, the pioneer of CLTS, will speak about the challenges of nationwide scaling up of CLTS, especially in the run up to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a particular focus on new strategies of some African nations on national scaling up. He will also discuss second and third generations challenges of CLTS susch as sustainability, inclusion and waste containment.
